AAUW in Support of Gender Discrimination Suit
against Wal-Mart
WASHINGTON — The American Association of University Women (AAUW)
has signed an amicus "friend of the court" brief in support
of the plaintiffs in Dukes v. Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. AAUW is deeply critical
of the U.S. Supreme Court's divided decision in Wal-Mart v. Dukes.
AAUW — one of 34 women's and civil rights groups to sign the brief
— will also provide financial support through its Legal Advocacy
Fund to defray the expenses of six of the lead plaintiffs. The plaintiffs
spoke at the AAUW National Convention on June 18th as part of A
Conversation on Justice, a session on workplace gender discrimination.
AAUW's Legal Advocacy Fund provided case support and signed an amicus
brief for the plaintiffs in the case.
AAUW's strategic case support program provides financial and organizational
backing for a select number of cases that have the potential to provide
significant protection for all women. The funds come directly from the
generous contributions of AAUW members who support the Legal Advocacy
Fund.
AAUW Travel Program
AAUW member
and owner of one of AAUW's newest partners, Ann Hite of TravelSmart
Partners, has created a new international travel program for fellow
AAUW members. The Director's Learn & Explore travel series was
designed to expand knowledge and understanding of women in other areas
of the world and the issues that are important to them. Each tour is developed
to complement our mission of equity for women and will include an AAUW
host.
AAUW Women in Society Delegation to South Africa

Women in Society Delegation to South Africa. For decades, AAUW has championed
the rights of women around the world. This work continues through various
ways as AAUW positions itself as a global leader advocating for women
and girls.
