MATH/SCIENCE CONFERENCES

Mission

 The committees from both Redlands and Banning/Beaumont Pass organize yearly day-long conferences for 8th grade girls. The speakers relate the need for math and science in their particular field and encourage the girls to continue their math and science studies in high school.

News

 One of our members attended the Redlands Zonta Club Annual Service Awards program and received their $750 donation towards our Math Science Conference. "It was a lovely program with several other community organizations also receiving a check. After I spoke briefly about the Math Science Conference, the next recipient got up, but before he talked about his organization, he described what the Math Science Conference did for his daughter who attended 4 years ago and loved the workshop on prosthetics. She then decided that was her future. She graduated HS and is headed for engineering at UCR with the goal of working with prosthetics. All because of first hand knowledge of that career. "

We had great conferences in 2011! Our committees of volunteers hosted 600+ eighth grade girls in Redlands and 350 girls from Banning and Beaumont. The all day events are hosted at the respective colleges and include dozens of hands-on workshops led by women leading in their career fields. Girls from our regional middle schools say "thank you!" for sponsoring them. You can donate $15 per girl (how many would you like to adopt?). See our mailing address for donations below.

Donate - Every cent is put towards the conference. See our 2010 Donor list.

Conference Committees
Organizing, logistics, hosting presenters, mailings - you name it, we have it. Monthly meetings at member houses lets us share ideas and friendships over snacks.
